Foreign Language
Department
The Foreign Language Department trains students to gain proficiency
in five languages: Spanish, French, Japanese, Latin, and American Sign Language. Courses
offered develop the necessary skills to cross-cultural barriers
in order to communicate, express ideas and take Christian values
to our country and abroad. Emphasis is placed on verbal communication,
grammar, literature and cultural appreciation.
Students learning languages at Valley
Christian High School hone pronunciation and verbal skills with
interactive computer language labs. There are unique opportunities
to interact with the Hispanic community through local Spanish
speaking churches. Students meet with native Spanish speakers
in East San Jose to teach English to adults and children and to
help Spanish speaking children with homework. There are opportunities
for foreign travel and study available.
The Foreign Language Department has
grown in proportion to the emphasis on language learning in universities.
As colleges, businesses and ministries recognize the need for
intercultural communication, our language classes have expanded
to prepare students in foreign language proficiency. These skills
will benefit our students in college, in careers and in ministry.
