Teacher Hiring
Practices
The Initial Teacher Application form
is sent to an applicant upon request either through email, or
calling the Human Resources Director.
The completed application is returned to the Human Resources
Director who will determine whether or not to continue with
the processing. Applicants will be notified by mail if their
application is not being given further consideration.
If the Human Resources Director determines to proceed, a copy
of the application will be forwarded to the appropriate school
principal.
The principal will check the listed references on the initial
application and if he/she wants to pursue the applicant, they
will be given Part II of the Teacher Application to complete
and return.
If the Principal determines that the returned Part II application
is satisfactory, he/she will proceed to contact the applicant
for an interview.
There will be an oral interview with the Principal, or his designated
Administrator. The applicant should come prepared to be candid
during the interview. At the same time, he/she should come relaxed!
It certainly doesn’t intend to be a difficult experience
for the applicant.
When the interview is completed, the Principal will consider
how to proceed with the hiring process. The applicants will
be notified and either thanked or asked back to proceed further.
If the Principal decides to proceed further, the next step would
be to schedule and interview with the Superintendent/President.
If after the interview with the Superintendent/President, the
applicant is approved, he/she will be brought to the Human Resources
Director to be given the necessary employment paperwork to be
completed. If there are several new teachers being hired, a
meeting during the summer may be scheduled for all new teachers
to complete their paperwork together.
A contract will be issued and must be signed and returned within
the allotted time written on the contract to become a valid
contract. Final authority for hiring is vested in the Superintendent/President
upon recommendation of the Principal.
When the applicant signs the contract and it is returned, an
orientation appointment will be scheduled by the Principal.
This appointment will acquaint the teacher with the curriculum
and staff policies. A Handbook will be issued to the teacher
at this time. The new teacher may also pick up materials that
he/she may wish to study and prepare for the fall term. If there
are several new members joining the staff, portions of this
orientation may be done as part of an in-service day.
