Teacher Endowment Gala
Every other year, Valley Christian Schools is honored to present the Teacher Endowment Gala. This
is an exciting and rewarding event where attendees can participate in supporting the Teaching Staff of VCS.
About Teacher Endowment
The Teacher Endowment is a pillar of Valley Christian Schoools'
Quest for Excellence.
As an integral step to achieving excellence, VCS strives in its
academic, arts and sports programs, to attract and retain quality
educators. Despite the important role they play in our children's
lives, teachers face a daunting dilemma in choosing a profession
that requires personal financial sacrifice. Teachers' compensation
still remains well below parity compared to private sector positions
with comparable educational rigor. In addition, teachers achieve
required accreditation as well as advanced degrees beyond credential
requirements without sufficient financial compensation.
The VCS Board of Directors is committed to narrowing this gap
in compensation parity so it may attract the best from within
the teaching profession. The Teacher Endowment Fund was established
to accomplish this goal. As a permanent fund, created by parents
and friends of VCS, it provides resources necessary to elevate
teacher compensation beyond the limited tuition funds available.
Annually, earnings from this fund are distributed to teachers
to supplement their income. The goal of this year's Gala is to
"Assure the Future", and raise the Endowment Balance to over 2
million dollars. The vision is to grow the Fund to over 20 million
dollars. The urgency for the teacher endowment is amplified by
the escalating cost of living in Silicon Valley.
The Wallace Award
On December 1, 1994, Valley Christian Schools'
Superintendent Dr. Clifford Daugherty honored Carol and Robert
Wallace with the first Teacher Endowment Award, named in their
honor.
This annual award acknowledges those whose sacrificial
generosity of time and personal resources contributes significantly to
the Teacher Endowment endeavor.
The award itself, a crystal Quest for Excellence, Wallace
Cup of Light, symbolizes the light of Jesus shining brightly through
VCS teachers who benefit from the Teacher Endowment Fund. "Along
with David in Psalm 23, our 'cup runneth over' with God's provision
through the Wallaces and many others that they inspire", said
Dr. Daugherty in the first award presentation.
Previous Wallace Award honorees include Jan & Armin McKee, Media Arts Group, Inc.,
Linda & Mark Skovmand, JoAnn Brassfield, Debbie & Richard Furtado and Barbara & Mark Laubach.
