VCS HISTORY:

Dave and Edie Wallace founded Valley Christian Schools when they moved to this area in 1956. A Bible study in the home of Bud and Barbara Callisch was formed to focus on the Christian philosophy of education that provides the passion and the reason for founding a Christian school like ours. They purposed to establish a nurturing environment offering quality education supported by a strong foundation in Christian values in partnership with parents to equip students to become leaders to serve God, their families, and to positively impact their communities and the world.

The City of San Jose worked cooperatively with Valley Christian Schools to relocate all Junior High and High School students at the Skyway Campus after Branham High School Reopened in the fall of 1999.

THE QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE:

The Quest for Excellence is a concerted effort by all associated with Valley Christian Schools to achieve the highest standards of educational excellence. To achieve this quest we must be good stewards of our Time, our Talent and our Treasure. Balancing these three elements is critical to our achieving the Quest. With the Quest for Excellence there is a focus on stewardship of our Treasure through fund development in support of the areas outlined on this page. Stewardship of our Time and Talent is integral to any development within Valley Christian Schools.

The Quest for Excellence effort is supported by five piers. These were summarized by our President/Superintendent, Dr. Clifford Daugherty, at the August 23, 2000, teacher's orientation. These columns are:

Attract Outstanding Students to Serve as Leaders in Their Future Professions, Our Nation and the World
The Goal: To prepare alumni who will remain committed to excellence and bring a renewed respect to the cause of Jesus Christ within their spheres of professional and personal influence.
Supported by The Youth with Promise Fund.

Recruit and Retain Quality Teachers
The Goal: To attract and retain some of America’s finest teachers and provide one of the highest compensation packages for teachers in the nation.
Supported by The Teacher Endowment Fund, Irrevocable Teacher Trust, and Parent love gifts

Improve the Academic Quality of VCS
The Goal: To offer one of the most excellent educational opportunities in the world.
Supported by the Annual PTPF fundraisers and various gifts for acquisition of needed, often times special purpose, instructional equipment and materials

Provide Outstanding Educational Facilities
The Goal: To procure and maintain permanent school facilities of outstanding quality for all VCS students.
Supported by The VCS Board Building Committee and the Building the Dream Capital Fund

Encourage the Formation of Christian Faith within Valley Christian Schools
The Goal: To effectively “make disciples” as Jesus directed (Matt. 28:19) by challenging students to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and to mature in their Christian walk by following the examples of their teachers, through a continuous study of Bible and through prayer.
Supported by the Chancellor's office creating the Spiritual Formation fund to ensure spiritually enhancing activities for students.
